Shaving

Shaving is one of the simplest, cheapest and quickest ways to get rid of unwanted hair. It is also one of the most popular used by both men and women. While men use shaving as a means of ridding themselves of facial hair, women normally use shaving to get rid of excess hair in their armpits and on their legs.

Depilatories

Depilatories are chemicals that dissolve the hair at the skins surface. It is a fairly quick method of hair removal but these products are not recommended for certain areas of the body such as near the eyes. The chemicals in these products may also be harsh and cause an allergic reaction in certain people. Depilatories are good for leg hair removal and unwanted hair above the lips.

Tweezing or plucking

Using tweezers to remove unwanted hair particularly in the eyebrows has been used for years. Tweezing can give relatively long results lasting anywhere from 3 to 8 weeks This method is inexpensive and can be used at home. The disadvantages of this method are that it can be painful, it is difficult to do large areas, and can result in red spots and swelling.

Waxing

In this method hot or cold wax is applied to the skin and a strip of cloth is pressed on to the wax. The cloth is then quickly pulled in the opposite direction of hair growth pulling out the hair. This method is inexpensive and can be done at home. It is also fairly quick. On the downside it can be quite messy, the hair can break off below the skin. Getting consistent result can be difficult. While waxing may be uncomfortable it is not extremely painful and can be used on both small and large areas.

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is done by a professional. In this method a thin metal probe is inserted into the hair follicle and an electric current is applied which destroys the hair follicle thus preventing hair growth. This method has proven itself to be the best method for permanent hair removal. On the downside this method is fairly expensive, it can be painful, and in most cases it takes several treatments to get the desired effect. The larger the area the more expensive the treatment.

Laser

Laser hair removal uses a laser light to attack the hair follicles and damage them often preventing the hair from growing back. The advantages of this method is that it is useful for large areas of hair growth. Is safe if done properly however, laser hair removal works better on some individuals than others so it is best to consult a professional before choosing this method of hair removal.

Removing unwanted hair can be time consuming and sometimes costly but with so many ways available choosing a method or more than one method that is right for you should not be difficult if you take the time to do a bit of research.
